A species inventory of the island of Koltur (Faroe Islands). It will be updated, but the first version is the one published in the associated paper. The numbers do not match exactly due to some taxa being recognized as distinct, but not identified.
The inventory was conducted Between 2019 and 2024, serving as a baseline for future monitoring of the terrestrial ecosystem of the island. The inventory focussed on terrestrial species of birds, plants and invertebrates and resulted in a total of 520 species recorded from the island since 2019. Among those, 56 were birds, 146 plants, and 317 invertebrates, mainly insects. A high number of invertebrates were new records for Koltur (242) as well as for the Faroe Islands in general (49).

We would like to thank Elsa Berg, Angela Djurhuus, Hans Meinhard í Eyðansstovu, Hjørdis Jensen, Steffan Joensen, Eva Kjæld Hansen, Súsanna Leo Bech, Bjørt í Niðristovu, Selma Tausen Olsen & Mathilde J. Østergaard for assistance in the field and sorting of invertebrate samples. Some additional experts identified and confirmed invertebrate material: Arne Fjellberg (Collembola), Jeremy Huebner (Diapriidae), Jonathan Vogel (Figitidae), Santiago Jaume-Schinkel (Psychodidae) and others. Thomas Pape and Jan Pedersen at the Denmark Natural History Museum verified some new records of Diptera and Coleoptera, respectively. Thanks to the helicopter pilots at Atlantic Airways for making some extra effort to get us on and off the island in bad weather conditions.
Studies are on-going and new species are expected on an irregular basis. The checklist will be updated annually, if there have been new species recorded.
